Residential HVAC Retrofit

This project was done for the purpose of becoming acquainted with Revit and MEP design. Because my scheduled internship for Summer 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I tried my best to do a project that would mimic what I might have done at the internship. I decided to design an HVAC system for my parents' house, since the house currently uses window air conditioning units and radiators for heating. The obvious challenge in doing this is that I had no professional guidance nor experience, so I had to teach myself how to size the mechanical equipment and do the ductwork. I used various sources on the Internet to learn how to do load calculations and how to optimize airflow in ducts. Since I am new to Revit, I used the default mechanical equipment that came with the free student license. As a result, I was limited by the AHUs that I could use. Further, my lack of professional experience may have resulted in creating ducts and pipes that are not optimal. However, upon completing this project, I feel much more confident with using Revit, and I realized how much of a challenge it can be to retrofit ducts around existing pipework in an older building.
